PHOENIX GAMES ACQUIRES STAKE IN MIDOKI

London, Tuesday, 8th June, 2021 – European mobile games conglomerate, Phoenix Games, founded by serial entrepreneur and investor Klaas Kersting, has announced it has acquired a minority stake in Leamington Spa-based mobile games company, Midoki.

As part of the acquisition, Phoenix Games will acquire the rights to Midoki’s popular mobile action RPG, Knighthood. Published by King in 2020, following a soft launch in 2018, Knighthood has been downloaded more than 5,000,000 times and was Awarded Best RPG at the Pocket Gamer Awards 2021.

Midoki has enjoyed previous success with other games in its portfolio including pirate-themed Plunder Pirates. Phoenix Games will supply Midoki with its suite of Uplift Products to maximise the potential of Knighthood and help the founders to achieve more with resulting improved user acquisition, ad monetisation and live operations.

Klaas Kersting, Founder and CEO of Phoenix Games, said: The team at Midoki are incredibly talented, and we’re excited to work with them on making Knighthood even better and more successful than before.

“Having already experienced success under the publishing team at King, we’re pleased to support Midoki on the next stage in their journey. This is the first step in working together even more strategically over time”

Phoenix Games works with game founders to help them focus on what makes them great. It provides knowhow, talent and resources, that allow them to overcome industry barriers and reach their full potential.

Jonathan Webb, Managing Director and Co-Founder of Midoki, said: “We saw the amazing work that Phoenix Games was already doing with other mobile games studios, helping them grow their existing titles. We’re looking forward to receiving that same support as we work together to grow the likes of Knighthood, alongside future titles in development.

Founded by a small team of veteran game developers in late 2011, Midoki creates ground-breaking, socially-connected games that deliver rich entertaining experiences on mobile. “It has been a pleasure working with Midoki on their award-winning game, which has won fans around the world. We wish them the best in their new partnership,” said Jessica Bliesner, Head of Technology Strategy & Operations at King.
